Betsy Thayer of our Jamestown Office Scores Highest on CPA Exam in Upstate NY
The principals of Schaffner, Knight, Minnaugh & Company, PC are proud to announce that Jamestown’s Betsy Thayer recently became a Certified Public Accountant in New York State by passing all parts of the CPA exam. “Betsy not only passed the CPA exam, but she did phenomenal,” said Christopher Smith, principal and manager of the Jamestown Office. “Her test results put her with an elite class of young professionals.”
Of the more than 92,000 candidates who sat for the Certified Public Accountant exam last year, only 39 of them across the nation had a higher score. “We are most proud of Betsy’s accomplishment,” Smith added. “Obviously she is very intelligent, but she worked extremely hard to achieve those scores. Her dedication to our field will certainly extend to an outstanding career in public accounting.”
After completing the well-respected internship program with Schaffner, Knight, Minnaugh & Company, P.C., Ms. Thayer joined the firm in 2012 as an associate at the Jamestown, NY office. She is currently a specialist in the firm’s tax department, focusing on tax consulting and preparation.
In May 2012, she graduated summa cum laude from SUNY Fredonia with a B.S. degree in Public Accountancy. Ms. Thayer also earned a B.A. degree in Psychology & Health and Human Services from State University of New York in Buffalo where she graduated summa cum laude in May of 2007.
While attending SUNY Fredonia, she was honored with the 2012 New York State Society of CPAs Accounting Senior Award, the 2011 New York State Society of CPAs John T. Kennedy Memorial Award, and the M.R. Poummit Achievement Award for highest department GPA in the Spring of 2011. She maintained Dean's List status every semester. During her time at SUNY Fredonia, she was an accounting tutor and volunteered her services with the VITA program.
