SKM announces professional accomplishments

The accounting firm of Schaffner, Knight, Minnaugh & Company, P.C. is pleased to announce that Debra A. Foister, senior forensic and tax consultant, and Daniel E. Sloppy, senior manager, recently earned their Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) designations from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE). The ACFE is the world’s leading provider of anti-fraud training and education. CFE’s are knowledgeable in four critical areas of fraud: fraudulent financial transactions, criminology & ethics, legal elements of fraud and fraud investigation.

“The ACFE awards the Certified Fraud Examiner designation only to select professionals who pass the exam and also meet a stringent set of criteria, including character, experience, and education,” said Jim Schaffner, CPA/ABV, CVA, managing principal of Schaffner, Knight, Minnaugh & Company, P.C. “Both Deb and Dan have successfully met these criteria, and they now join the ranks of over 19,000 business and government professionals with the CFE certification. These designations provide further value-added service to our clients.”

In addition, Schaffner, Knight, Minnaugh & Company, P.C. is pleased to announce that Timothy R. Fox, accounting and auditing manager, successfully passed the CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor) exam, which is recognized worldwide as the chosen designation for information systems audit, control and security professionals. “Possessing the CISA designation demonstrates proficiency in the profession,” Schaffner added. “With a growing demand for professionals possessing information system audit and security skills, CISA has become a preferred certification program by individuals and organizations around the world. Tim joins 55,000 professionals who have earned the CISA globally.”

Debra A. Foister, CPA, CFE, senior forensic and tax consultant, joined Schaffner, Knight, Minnaugh & Company, P.C. in 2003. She specializes in tax consulting & compliance and business valuation & litigation support. Foister graduated magna cum laude from Edinboro University, where she earned her B.S. degree in Business Administration and Accounting. Foister became a Certified Public Accountant in 2005, and she was honored with the Delta Mu Delta National Honor Society in Business Administration award in 2002. She is a member of the American Institute and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Association of the Certified Fraud Examiners.

Daniel E. Sloppy, CPA/ABV, CVA, MBA, CFE, tax consulting senior manager and director of valuation services, joined Schaffner, Knight, Minnaugh & Company, P.C. in 1996. In addition to specializing in tax consulting & compliance and business valuation & litigation support, his practice includes assisting attorneys in marital dissolution cases and personal injury cases.

Sloppy graduated magna cum laude from Edinboro University where he received his B.S. degree in Accounting in 1988. He earned his Masters of Business Administration from Pennsylvania State Erie, The Behrend College in 1994. Sloppy became a Certified Public Accountant in 1991; a Certified Valuation Analyst in 1999; and an Accredited Business Valuation Specialist in 2007. He volunteers his time serving as the treasurer for the Downtown Branch of the YMCA of Erie County and as a board member of the Estate Planning Council of Erie. He is a member of the American Institute and Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts, and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

Timothy R. Fox, CPA, CISA accounting and auditing manager, joined Schaffner, Knight, Minnaugh & Company, P.C. in 2000. He earned his B.S. degree in Accounting from Pennsylvania State Erie, The Behrend College. He became a Certified Public Accountant in 2003. Fox specializes in accounting, auditing, and financial reporting. More specifically he concentrates his practice in the automotive industry; information technology and employee benefit plan audits. He is a member of the American Institute and Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. In service to his community, he is a volunteer for the Outreach Outdoors organization.
