2010 Internship Program Grows

Schaffner, Knight, Minnaugh & Co., P.C. welcomes George Dowd, Zachary Hotaling and Dan Lish to the SKM Internship Program of 2010.

George R. Dowd will graduate in May of 2011 from Mercyhurst College with a B.S. degree including a dual major in Accounting and Finance and a minor in Economics. He is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, the Mercyhurst College Dean’s List Scholar, the Mercyhurst College Presidential Scholarship and the Mercyhurst College Bishop Watson Scholarship. As part of his community service, he serves as a volunteer of the Sarah Reed Retirement Center. During his SKM internship, he will assist auditing and accounting, tax consulting and client accounting departments.

W. Zachary Hotaling, who will graduate in May of 2010 with a B.S. degree in Accounting with a minor in Management from Penn State, the Behrend College, is a previous SKM intern from November of 2008 through April of 2009. He will continue to assemble and prepare individual tax returns for new and existing clients throughout the 2009 tax season including individuals with pass through entities, rental income, multiple W-2’s as well as foreign income and taxes. Zach volunteered to participate in a comprehensive online business simulation known as Capstone. His peers chose him to represent and lead the group as the CEO. The team project included: coordinating management strategies, marketing, production and finance.

Daniel J. Lish will graduate from Mercyhurst College with B.S. degree in Accounting in May of 2010. Dan is active in the Mercyhurst College resident’s life serving as a Resident Assistant for the past two years. He is also a member of Delta Mu Delta, a national business administration honors society. During his internship with the firm, Dan will be assisting the auditing department with physical inventory, as well as entering trial balance and capital asset information into the firm’s software. He will also assist in the preparation of individual tax returns for the 2009 tax season.

“Our goal is to challenge our interns and prepare them for the working world by giving them an insight into our firm and our daily operations,” said Chuck Knight, managing principal. “George, Zach and Dan will not only learn quite a bit about the accounting world, but they will be very useful to our staff.”
